Born Giles Mitchell in Westminster, London. London shaped his early formation as an artist — from the Slade to the Roundhouse, from the Troubadour poetry nights to Centre Point.
Higher Diploma in Fine Art at the Slade School of Art, University College London. Electronic music installation and performance. Highlights included a week workshop with Joseph Beuys, computer art, and creating "Cracks in the City" — a performance poetry theatre work at the Roundhouse.
1961 — Highly Commended at The Royal Drawing Society Exhibition "The Children's Royal Academy" for pictorial composition.

During the 1970s Giles helped run the Monday Poetry nights at The Troubadour, 265 Old Brompton Road, Earls Court, London. In 1978 he published and self-edited 'On the Streets' — Troubadour Press. An anthology of poetry and prose from the Troubadour Poets. ISBN 0 9506286 0 3. He was also involved with other poetry groups in London, including the Poetry Society in Earls Court.
