Whilst studying for a DipAD in Fine Art at Trent Polytechnic, Nottingham, Giles 'Denmark' Mitchell — who had improvised on the piano since the age of 11, with an interest in experimenting with sound and mixed media — found in the Synthi A a paradise of sound. The oscilloscope was the only gear that could express his music at that time, used with reel-to-reel tape recorders, often to create delayed elements in the construction of expressions, sound and otherwise.
